Custom Election Rules Revision Process
Cook’s Ferry Indian Band approved and accepted the The Custom Election Rules of the Cook’s Ferry Indian Band,1994 (Custom Election Rules), which removed us from the Election Regulations under the Indian Act. Since that time, there has been an interest from membership to amend the Custom Election Rules to make it easier for membership to participate in Band Elections, and to modernize the ways in which members can participate.

Revisions to the Custom Election Rules will change the legal processes of which our Band undertakes Band Elections in the future. It was important to Chief and Council that we engage with Cook’s Ferry Membership to hear your feedback and ideas regarding the proposed revisions and to hear if there are areas that we have not considered. Chief and Council held several hybrid engagement sessions with membership in May 2026.

We will hold a referendum in June to consider adoption of the proposed revisions.
