Land Use Planning
What is Land Use Planning?
Land use planning is a community-led process that helps guide how our reserve lands will be used, protected, and cared for over time. It helps answer questions such as:
-
Where should future housing or development happen
-
What areas should be protected?
-
What spaces are needed for recreation, services, economic development, and infrastructure?
Purpose
-
Protect important community and cultural spaces
-
Support economic opportunities on-reserve
-
Strengthen decision-making
-
Create a long-term vision for reserve lands
-
Plan for growth

Stuwix Resources’ Forest Management Practices and Cook’s Ferry Indian Band’s Forest Licences
Engagement Overview
Stuwix Resources (Stuwix) held two community engagement sessions with Cook’s Ferry Indian Band members on February 2 and February 9, 2026. The hybrid sessions were open to all members, with in-person and virtual (via Zoom) attendance options.
The sessions were led by:
-
Lindsay Tighe, General Manager, Stuwix
-
Shaun Hales, RFP – Planning Forester, Stuwix
Purpose of Engagement
-
To discuss Stuwix’s current forest management practices
-
To better understand Cook’s Ferry Indian Band’s expectations for the implementation of their forest licences within their traditional territory in the Merritt and Lillooet Timber Supply Areas (TSA)
Next Steps
Stuwix recognizes the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration, with the shared goal of using the forest licences as a land management tool that reflects Cook’s Ferry Indian Band’s cultural values and stewardship priorities. The licenses are not large but have an opportunity to instill Cook’s Ferry values in blocks and roads included in the licenses.
