The Elder-Led Nlaka'pamux Arts & Cultural Learning Program is back on. Join Elders and Knowledge Keepers for our first session, Cedar Harvest & Preparation. Take part in cultural learning focused on cedar, traditional harvesting teachings, and the important role cedar continues to play in Nlaka'pamux culture.

Participants Will Learn:

The cultural importance of cedar within Nlaka'pamux culture
-
Traditional harvesting protocols and cultural responsibilities
-
Respectful relationships with the land
-
Sustainable harvesting and stewardship practices
-
Traditional uses of cedar
-
Cedar preparation techniques for future basketry projects
Participants are encouraged to bring a cedar item for a show-and-tell sharing circle.
This could include:

A cedar basket
-
A cedar weaving project
-
A cedar artwork or carving
-
A family heirloom
Any cedar item with cultural, personal, or family significance.

Participants will have an opportunity to share the story, teachings, memories, or family connections behind their item.
Registration is required and limited spaces are available.

Come spend an afternoon learning from Elders, sharing stories, and strengthening your connection to culture, community, and traditional knowledge.​​
